Position: Executive Director

Hours: Salaried based on a 35-hour work week Salary/Benefits: Competitive

Job Description:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic
and operational responsibility for the organizations staff, programs, expansion, financials, and 
execution of its mission. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of our missions, the core programs, operations, fundraising, and development plans.

Responsibilities

General

  • Represents organization professionally and does so ethically, positively, and transparently.
  • Understands the needs of those served by the organization and maintains a working knowledge of significant developments, trends, and emerging issues in the field.
  • Assists the Board of Directors in maintaining a long-range strategy and ensures that it makes consistent and timely progress toward its goals.
  • Engages and energizes volunteers, paid staff, Board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
  • Act as primary spokesperson for organization.
  • Maintaining employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions of the organization.

Personnel

  • Manages the recruitment, supervision, and release of paid staff and volunteers.
  • Maintains job descriptions, conducts performance evaluations on a regular basis, and ensures that all policies are up-to-date and followed.
  • Promotes active volunteer participation through recruitment and retention activities.
  • Maintains a positive, professional climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse, productive staff by encouraging staff and volunteer development, through workshops, conferences, and other related development.
  • Manages the orientation of new Board of Directors members annually and builds board involvement.

 

 

 

Communication

  • Informs the Board of Directors fully and regularly on the condition of and important factors influencing it.
  • Provides agendas, minutes, financial reports, and program-related materials to the Board members prior to each Board meeting.
  • Ensures that the activities, programs, and goals of the organization are publicized.
  • Establishes sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups, organizations, and the media.

Financial Management and Fund Development

  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the organization and sound financial practices.
  • Works with the staff, Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors in preparing a proposed annual budget.
  • Ensures that adequate funds are available to permit to carry out its work and organization operates within a positive financial position.
  • Oversees and maintains records and documents that ensure compliance with the expectations of funders and the appropriate government and accreditation agencies.
  • Oversees all fund development activities, working with the fund development director and Board of Directors.
  • Promotes and retains individual contributors via emails, letters, and person-to-person contacts.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:

  • Successful experience writing and submitting grant applications.
  • Financial and accounting knowledge.
  • Ability to gather and understand data, to compile information, and to prepare reports.
  • Computer skills- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to use electronic financial management systems.
  • Effective interpersonal oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Genuine comfort working with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Oral and written Spanish fluency (preferred, but not required).
