Responsibilities

Position Summary: Responsible for assisting with conceptualizing and developing innovative new products across (but not limited to) various Snap-on product lines. Identify opportunities and help develop new concepts with emphasis on the customer, project development intensity, manufacturability and potential profitability of designs to insert into product realization cycle (concept ready). Plans project work, works to schedule, communicates progress to ensure goals are being met. Interfaces externally with end users, franchises and suppliers.  Interfaces internally with cross functional teams.

Key Tasks:

  •  Coordinate and complete basic product conceptualization and process improvement projects in a timely manner.
  •  Mine new product ideas, applications and enhancements by observing customers in their place of work. 
  •  Conceptualize new ideas and solutions by using analytical and experimental techniques.
  •  Gather feedback from end users regarding performance of prototype solutions and report back to team.
  •  Network across different external organizations and internal cross functional teams. Learn new markets.
  •  Exhibit learned technical methodologies and judgement to achieve task completion.
  •  Demonstrate skills and adopt technical background to reach relevant conclusions to meet customer needs and opportunities.
  •  Enhance technical knowledge by further formal or informal education.
  •  Develop interpersonal and communication skills.
  •  Prepare technical reports and project documentation including conclusions and recommendations for future work.

Qualifications

  • Able to complete project tasks, product and/or process enhancements using basic theory, engineering principles, investigative techniques, analysis, and judgment.
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Science or combined appropriate education and experience.
  • Experience with vehicle repair preferred.
  • Local travel required with occasional multi day trips to trade shows, customer and vendor visits.
  • Work effectively with other designers and engineers cross functionally across the organization. Strong team player with strong communication skills
