MAINTENANCE WORKER

Brookside Care Center / Willowbrook Assisted Living

Kenosha County is looking for a full-time Maintenance Worker to help keep Brookside Care Center and Willowbrook Assisted Living facilities safe and clean for residents and staff.  Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks in the care of the buildings, equipment, and grounds.

2025 Hiring Range: $21.82 - $24.79 per hour

Work Schedule

  • This is a full-time position on second shift, 4:00 PM to 12:00 midnight, with rotating weekends
  • On call for snow emergencies
  • Training will be on first shift

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs normal custodial tasks such as removing trash; sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; carpet extraction; cleaning washrooms, cleaning mirrors, filling hand soap/paper towel/toilet paper
  • Performs grounds maintenance activities such as trash pickup and snow/ice removal
  • Checks and records status of air handlers, air conditioners, and boilers
  • Repairs sinks, showers, toilets, and rods out drain lines
  • Performs basic repairs to furniture and equipment such as patient beds and wheelchairs
  • Replaces light bulbs and ballasts
  • Changes filters and belts and greases motors on air handlers or pumps
  • Cleans coils on air conditioning units
  • Inspects generators and elevators
  • Fills in as role of Environmental Services Worker/Housekeeper during staffing shortages
  • Inspects and maintains lawn and snow equipment
  • Changes door handles, hinges, openers, and lock cores
  • Performs other work as required or assigned

Success Factors

  • Knowledge of the chemicals and tools used for cleaning and the necessary tools used to complete the task at hand
  • Skill in operation and general maintenance of outdoor equipment such as snow blowers, snow pushers, and Bobcat
  • Knowledge of the Building Automation System, A/C’s, air handlers, and boilers
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, and painting
  • Skill in operation of building maintenance equipment
  • Skill in safe work practices in a highly regulated skilled nursing environment
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to exercise good judgement
  • Ability to use computer software, including Microsoft Office Outlook (email and calendar functions), Word, Excel, and Internet navigation
  • Ability to use a smart phone (Android or Apple)
  • Ability to effectively work to support a customer-service, team-oriented, continuous-improvement facilities maintenance environment
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently while using a variety of tools and in access-challenged work conditions to perform necessary preventative maintenance tasks
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment, identify issue root-cause, and solve problems
  • Ability to effectively communicate with building occupants about maintenance activities that may impact their work area
  • Ability to remain professional and courteous at all times
  • Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment

Job Requirements, Education, Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

Licenses or Certifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire and maintain during incumbency, with acceptable driving record

  • The position involves moderate physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 25 pounds of force frequently
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist
  • Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time performing snow removal operations when temperatures are less than 32 degrees
